What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy is a personalised approach to supporting health through diet and lifestyle. It looks beyond individual symptoms to understand how different systems in the body are functioning together, and how factors such as nutrition, stress, sleep and daily habits may be influencing how you feel.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, nutritional therapy recognises that each person is different. Your health history, current symptoms and individual needs are considered in detail to build a plan that is both realistic and relevant to you.

I analyse your symptoms, health history and patterns over time to help identify what may be contributing to how you feel. The aim is not simply to manage symptoms, but to better understand them and make practical, targeted changes.

Where appropriate, functional testing can be discussed to provide additional insight and guide a more personalised approach, but this is always optional and based on your preferences.

The focus is on clear, practical changes that can support your body over time, helping you feel more balanced, resilient and well.

Michelle’s Approach

My approach to nutritional therapy is calm, personalised and focused on practical, achievable change.

I developed a particular interest in migraines through my own experience, having lived with severe chronic migraines for many years. Attacks were frequent and would often last several days, eventually leading to me stepping away from my previous profession as a Clinical Scientist. Over time, I explored a wide range of approaches before finding that a combination of targeted nutrition and hands-on care made a really meaningful difference. I found that the benefits of chiropractic care were more sustained when supported by nutrition and, where appropriate, supplementation.

This experience shapes how I work. I understand how complex and individual migraines can be. Rather than being caused by a single trigger,

Migraines are better understood as a sensitive nervous system with a fluctuating threshold, where multiple factors can build over time and influence when an attack occurs. This means that effective support often involves reducing overall load on the system, rather than focusing on a single trigger in isolation.

While there is often a genetic component, lifestyle and environmental factors can play an important role in how often migraines occur and how severe they feel. Triggers can be varied, and identifying and managing them can feel overwhelming, particularly when they are not always obvious or consistent.

A similar pattern is often seen in chronic pain, where sensitivity can increase over time and the threshold for symptoms becomes lower, meaning the system reacts more easily to inputs that may previously have been well tolerated.

While you may present with symptoms such as migraines, pain, persistent fatigue or injury, I also explore wider factors such as gut health, hormonal balance, inflammation, nutritional status, possible food intolerances, genetics, environmental exposures, detoxification and overall resilience to build a clearer understanding of what may be contributing.

As a busy mother of two, I am very aware of the realities of day-to-day life. Maintaining a healthy diet needs to be realistic, not idealised. My approach focuses on meaningful, practical changes, supporting clients to move towards a balanced, whole-food diet in a way that can be sustained alongside work, family and other commitments. I also provide guidance on making better choices when using packaged or convenience foods, recognising that these are often part of everyday life.

I do not rely on extreme or restrictive approaches. Instead, I take a considered and individualised approach, with a strong understanding of common dietary sensitivities and intolerances, allowing recommendations to be tailored carefully to each person.

Rather than relying on high-dose or broad supplement protocols, I take a gentle, targeted and considered approach, selecting supplements carefully and tailoring them to individual tolerance, particularly for those who may be more sensitive or reactive. If preferred we can focus solely on food. I also review any supplements you are currently taking, assessing whether they are appropriate, necessary and working effectively within your overall plan

I also support clients who are taking medication. Nutritional therapy can work alongside medical care, helping to support overall health and, where appropriate, reduce the impact of triggers, rather than replacing existing treatment. I tailor nutritional recommendations to align with each client’s medication regimen
